Location: Chester Frost Park Beach, Dallas Bay in Lake Chickamauga
Gold Point Circle North, Hixson, TN

Eligibility: All swimmers must be registered with USA Swimming Inc. and selected by LSC or purchase a Single-Event Pass ($15). Each LSC may enter unlimited swimmers with swimmers selecting only one distance.

Events: 200 Yard (10&unders only can participate in this distance) 9:00 a.m.
0.5 Mile (open to all age groups) 9:20 a.m.
1.0 Mile (open to all age groups) 9:25 a.m.
1.5 Mile (open to all age groups except 8&U) 9:25 a.m

Awards: Top three in each age group for males and females for each event Age Groups: 8&Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, Senior

Deadline/Fees: Saturday, August 25, 8:30 a.m. $23 entry fee, to include cap 

Check-in: All swimmers must be checked-in before the pre-race meeting.  Race numbers will be issued to swimmers at check-in and swimmers caps and swimmers shall be marked with their race numbers on both upper arms and their upper backs. The swimmers shall be numbered vertically down the arms and horizontally across the upper backs. Numbering will be the primary means of determining race finish order.


Pre-Race A general meeting for coaches and officials will be held 
Meetings: prior to races on Friday night from 6-7. 

Officials briefings will be held at 8:15 a.m. 
200 yard (10 and under) Athlete briefing and pilots briefings will be held at 8:30 am
0.5 mile, 1.0 mile and 1.5 miles Athlete and pilots briefings will be held at 8:45 a.m

Race 30 minutes prior to each race, the announcer will count-down the start Countdown: of the race in 10-minute intervals. 1-minute intervals will be announced for the last 5 minutes until the start of the race. Before each race,         swimmers will be counted as they walk down to the start line. At the finish, each swimmer will be checked in as they exit the course, in accordance with USA Open Water Swimming Safety guidelines. Any swimmer missing this check in will be disqualified. 

Start: The start will be an in-water standing start.  Depending on the number of registered athletes, there will either be a mass start (males and females and all age groups together) or a staggered start by gender and age group with older swimmers and males starting first.  To be determined on race day.

Finish: The finish will be a land finish (on the beach) under a finish line truss.

Protests: Must be filed in writing on the designated form with the Clerk of Course (timing) within 45 minutes from the time unofficial results are posted.

Escorts: Paddlers and escort boats will be spaced throughout the course under the supervision of the race committee to provide help to swimmers as needed. USA Swimming Rules will govern any interaction with escort crafts.

Race Committee: Will consist of the Race/Meet Director, Open water Meet Referee, Safety Director, Admin. Referee, Starter/Timers, and any coaches present.

Rules: Current USA Open Water Swimming Technical rules will govern. For the safety of the swimmers, fingernails and toenails must be clipped. Officials will check fingernail length prior to the events. Nail clippers will be provided. Non-conformation will result in disqualification. 
Suits: Only swimsuits complying with FINA Open Water swimsuit specifications may be worn in any USA Swimming sanctioned or approved open water competition.  Swimsuits for both men and women shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor extend below the ankle.
Course: Swimmers must stay on the course and swim on the left side of buoys (keeping buoys on the side of their right shoulder) or will be disqualified.

SPECIAL NOTE: Each team and/or swimmer is requested to provide a volunteer (friend or parent) to be in the water in a kayak, paddle board during the race.  Must provide own kayak.

Safety: Safety is of paramount consideration during this competition. Safety provisions contained in the USA Swimming Open Water Meet Directors Guidelines will be strictly followed. All applicable USAS and USMS rules, regulations and safety requirements will be enforced for the well-being of the swimmers. USA Swimming, Inc., Southeastern Swimming, The Chattanooga Open Water Swimmers, and Chester Frost Park, shall be held free and harmless from any and all liabilities or claims for damages arising by reason of injuries to anyone during the conduct of this event. Safety boats will be provided in accordance with the USA Swimming Open Water Championships Safety Plan.

   Conditions: Water temperatures should range from 80-88 degrees F; air temperature range is 75-90 degrees F. 

Safe Sport: Use of audio visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is not permitted in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms.

Operation of a drone, or any other flying apparatus, is prohibited over the venue (pools, athlete/coach areas, spectator areas and open ceiling locker rooms) any time athletes, coaches, officials and/or spectators are present. Exceptions may be granted with prior written approval by the Vice President of Program Operations.  Contact Race Director.

Disabilities: The C.O.W.S. welcome all swimmers with disabilities as described in the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations, Article 105, to participate in our meets. Swimmers with disabilities that require any accommodations are required to provide advance notice in writing to the Meet Director by the entry deadline accompanying their meet entry file, including the need for any personal assistants required and/or registered service animals. Failure to provide advance notice may limit the race organizers the ability to accommodate all requests.

 

RACE COURSES


 

200 Yards Swim Course
The 200 yard course is for the younger swimmers up to 9-10.
The swimmers will start in the water holding a rope in their left hand (see map start).
Swim 50 yards to Buoy 1 staying to the left of buoy 1 (keeping the buoy off of their right shoulder)
Turn right and swim 100 yards to the next buoy (this is buoy 2 for the 200 yard race but is referred to as the 4th buoy for the 0.5 and 1.0 mile courses).  
Swim to the left of buoy 2 and then turn right 
Swim 50 yard tp the beach for a land finish under a finish line truss.
This course was successfully used in 2016 for 2 race dates.  
0.5 Mile course Swim Course:
The 0.5 Mile course is open from 7-8 age group through seniors. This is 1 lap of the 4 buoys race course.
The swimmers will start in the water holding a rope in their left hand (see map start).
Swim 50 yards to buoy one keeping the buoy off of their right shoulder (swimming left of the buoy)
Swim 250 yards out to left of buoy 2 and then turn right towards buoy 3
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 3 and then turn right towards buoy 4
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 4 
Swim 50 yards into the beach for a land finish under a finish line truss.  
This course was successfully used in 2016 for 2 race dates.  

1.0 Mile course Swim Course:
The 1.0 Mile course is open from 7-8 age group through seniors. This is 2 laps of the 4 buoy race course. 
The swimmers will start in the water holding a rope in their left hand (see map start).
Swim 50 yards to buoy one keeping the buoy off of their right shoulder (swimming left of the buoy)
Swim 250 yards out to left of buoy 2 and then turn right towards buoy 3
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 3 and then turn right towards buoy 4
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 4 and turn right and swim 100 yards to buoy 1 for a 2nd Lap.
Swim to buoys 2, 3, and 4, as above
After the 2nd lap, swim 50 yards from buoy 4 into the beach for a land finish under a finish line truss.  
This course was successfully used in 2016 for 2 race dates.


1.5 Mile course Swim Course:
The 1.5 Mile course is open from 9-10 age group through seniors.  This is 3 laps of the 4 buoys race course.
The swimmers will start in the water holding a rope in their left hand (see map start).
Swim 50 yards to buoy one keeping the buoy off of their right shoulder (swimming left of the buoy)
Swim 250 yards out to left of buoy 2 and then turn right towards buoy 3
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 3 and then turn right towards buoy 4
Swim for 250 yards to buoy 4 and turn right and swim 100 yards to buoy 1 for a 2nd Lap.
Swim to buoys 2, 3, and 4, as above
At buoy 4, turn right and swim 100 yards to buoy 1 for a 3rd Lap.
After the 3rd lap, swim 50 yards from buoy 4 into the beach for a land finish under a finish line truss.  
This course was successfully used in 2016 for 2 race dates.
